Upper back pain is not as common as lower back pain. Apart from the two common causes i.e. muscular irritation and joint dysfunction, there are also some uncommon causes of upper back pain. They are disc herniations, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc diseases, arthritis, osteoporosis, instability etc. These causes constitute about 1% of the problem.
