Sunburn Remedies


Here is the list of the natural sunburn remedies that will bring a lot of relief to your sunburn skin:


1. Shower- take a cool bath or shower. Add half a cup of cornstarch, oatmeal or baking soda to your bath. This will definitely provide some relief.


2. Antibacterial ointment- Do not try to burst your water blisters on your own, just leave them intact to speed healing and avoid infection. Let them burst on their own, and apply an antibacterial ointment on the open area.


3. Avoid benzocaine- If going for some over-the-counter medication, then avoid benzocaine (an anesthetic) because they can cause allergic reactions in many people.


Preventive measures


1. Avoid hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., if you plan to be outdoors because during these hours, the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation is at its peak.


2. Cover exposed areas of your body while going out in the sun.


3. Do not forget to wear a broad-brimmed hat to avoid your hair, face and neck from the scorching heat.


4. Wear a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15.


5. Protect your eyes. Go for the sunglasses that block 95% of UV radiation as they are perfect source of eye protection against harmful sun's ultraviolet radiation.


And if have to spend long hours out in the sun or if you have had a cataract surgery done or are taking a prescription medication that increases your senstivity to UV radiation, then you may need lenses that block 99% of harmful UV radiation.


Medical-help


You might need medical help for sunburn, if


1. your sunburn begins to blister


2. you feel ill


3. you observe immediate complications like rash, itching or fever


Caution


A lifetime overexposure to harmful UV radiation can damage your skin to the core thereby increasing your risk of skin cancer.
