Patients with sore throat are strictly advised that if such a condition persists for more than 7 days then he/she should consult a doctor immediately. But how will he/she come to know that the discomfort is known as sore throat? For that, here are some of the sore throat symptoms (pharyngitis):
1) Difficulty in breathing, swallowing and opening the mouth.
2) Irritation and inflammation in the throat which may or may not accompany redness and swelling in the pharynx.
3) Appearance of blisters in the throat
4) Pus on the surface of the tonsils
5) Runny and stuffy nose along with cough
6) Headache, fever and sick feeling
7) Diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea in children
8) Blood in saliva, lump in the neck, hoarseness etc.
However, it is difficult to diagnose whether you are suffering from viral or bacterial infection as the symptoms of both the infections are almost the same. It can only be diagnosed through a proper test. Usually, the symptoms of viral infection are milder and are connected with common cold. If the infection is caused by Coxsackie virus then it may develop blisters on the tonsils and soft palate. And if it is infected by strep then usually the throat is swollen.
