Sinusitis Symptoms of both, acute and chronic, are similar, except for the fact that in case of chronic sinusitis, they last longer. However, the pain experienced may depend on which sinus is infected. The most common symptom experienced by people when they have sinusitis is feeling unwell, pain and blocked nose, which is often misunderstood as a common cold.
Other common symptoms of sinus infection which may accompany blocked nose may include:
1) Severe headache, cough, sneezing and feverish.
2) bad breath
3) loss of smell
4) clear or yellow/green nasal discharge
5) stuffy or running nose
6) sore throat
7) weakness and tiredness
8) Facial pain, toothache, or earache.
In case of children, there may be irritation, snoring, mouth breathing and difficulty in feeding.
Depending upon the sinus infected, the pain experienced may differ.
1) If Frontal sinusitis or the sinus that is located on your forehead is infected, then you may experience severe headache which worsens early morning, pain when touched, fever and postnasal drips.
2) If you experience pain on your cheekbones, feverish, tender and swollen cheekbones, pressure and pain on either or both sides, then it could be the sign of maxillary sinusitis or infection on the sinus located in your cheekbones.
3) Ethmoid sinuses that are located near the ear ducts, may be inflamed if your eyes are swollen, headache, bad breath, and suffer from chronic sore throat, loss of smell, nasal congestion and tenderness on the sides of your nose.
4) The sphenoid sinuses are affected less frequently. Symptoms of its inflammation may include earaches, neck pain, headache, double vision if the pressure extends up to the brain.
In case of all the sinus inflammation, feeling feverish is very common. Most of the patients suffering from sinusitis may experience tenderness in different locations which makes it difficult to locate, which sinus has been infected.
In some cases, though it occurs very rarely, sinus inflammation may extend up to the brain which may cause brain infection and several other complications. Its best to go for treatment at the earliest if you notice any of these symptoms. To some extent, you can also go for home remedy or natural treatment for sinus infection and prevent it.
