The side effects of steroids on the body must be made well aware among the athletes and the youths. Though the use of steroids has been declared as illegal but a number of athletes still continue to administer to get that ultimate body and enhance their performance. Buying steroids without the prescription of the doctor is also illegal but despite the fact, it is found easily in gym and other such places. Even the youths are lured to administer steroids by their temptation to develop lean body muscles. However, none of them are aware of the side effects that it is going to develop in their body.

Those who are aware of it, may dismiss the fear of the risk by the thought that these side effects will be reversible once they discontinue the use. But as a matter of fact, there are certain side effects that the body may retain for the rest of their life despite discontinuing the use of steroids. Following are some of the side effects of steroids on the body which every youth must be aware of:

1) The use of steroid increases the testosterone level in the body which can lead to hormonal imbalance and may disrupt the proper functioning of the body. In men it can lead to the development of women physiology such as increased in the size of the bust. In women it can lead to the development of male characteristics.

2) Steroids can also cause the cholesterol level in the body to rise thereby increasing the risk of heart diseases. Athletes who administer steroids have complained of frequent heart palpitation.

3) Liver and kidney damage can also be caused as a result of the side effects of the steroids. It can lead to the development of cancer.

4) Because of the increase of strength in the muscles than the strength of the tendons, it is most likely to experience torn muscles and ruptured tendons. It can also impair the immune system.

5) It increases the risk of transmitting diseases like hepatitis B and AIDS.

6) Infertility in both men and women are the common side effects of steroids. Use of steroids though increases the level of testosterone but it tends to decrease the sperm count, abnormal production of sperm and may even shrink the testis.

7) Steroids also affect the brain and can even have a deep influence on the psychological state of an individual. Sometimes the use of the steroid can also create confusion between your body and the brain.

Some of the side effects listed above may be reversible but some of them are irreversible. It is worth noting down that steroids which are believed to help build muscles can cause thinning of the bones that could give rise to osteoporosis and arthritis. So instead of putting your health at risk to develop the ultimate physique by using steroids, it is better to develop a healthy approach towards developing a masculine body.
