Osteoporosis, if not prevented at the earlier stage, can have a long lasting effect. Though identifying the symptoms at an early stage is quite difficult. Those who have prolonged low intake of calcium or excess consumption of caffeine and salt are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis. Those who smoke, don’t exercise and diet constantly are also at risk.

The disease is characterized by reduction in bone density. According to the National Osteoporosis Society, 1 in every 3 women and 1 in every 12 men in UK will develop osteoporosis at some point of their life. There are a variety of natural remedies through which osteoporosis can be treated.

1. One of the topmost priorities for the treatment of osteoporosis is exercise. Strong bones will help you to prevent osteoarthritis. Jogging or walking daily will be helpful in building up the bone density.

2. Magnesium is one of the main sources of building up, strengthening and preserving bones. It can be found in peanut butter. So eating two tablespoon of peanut butter daily is beneficial.

3. Vinegar helps in pulling out calcium from your bones. You can either add it in your soup or salad. Or you can even make it your favorite salad dressing.

4. Increase intake of soy products. The nutrients in soybean will be helpful in balancing the estrogen level. Atleast 40gms of soy products must be included in your diet.

5. Fruits such as apple and banana will help you in tracing calcium and building up bones. Boron is a tracing element found in apples that helps the body to hold calcium. Also include more potassium in your diet as researchers have found that those who follow a potassium rich diet have stronger bones.

6. Almond milk is another natural remedy for osteoporosis. It can be prepared by soaking the almond in water, peel it off and then blend it nto cow or soy milk.

7. Yoga also helps in strengthening the bones. The yoga pose such as the mountain and the tree are good for strengthening the bones. However those who already have osteoporosis must not try the tree pose.

Thus, in order to stay away from osteoporosis, one must inculcate a healthy lifestyle. Quit smoking and limit drinking, also exercise daily and include a large amount of nuts and vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, romaine lettuce, spinach, collards etc.
