Alcoholism is a chronic disease that affects a large majority of people in the world. Some people drink to enjoy while others drink just because they have nothing else to do. Most people are of the opinion that if a person has strong will-power then he can quit drinking. However, strong will-power cannot just stop alcohol addiction, as it is characterized by three components namely craving, tolerance and physical dependence.

If you wish to stop the addiction to alcohol then you must have a strong desire to quit drinking. This would be the first step towards getting rid of alcohols. There are many positive affects of alcohols but when addiction sets in then it causes havoc to your health. Wanting a drink would turn into needing a drink.

So if you feel that you are an alcoholic or notice the symptoms of alcoholism in yourself and wish to get rid of it then consult a doctor right away. Or you can come in touch with a social group or try setting a date to stop drinking thereafter.

Social groups organize seminars, conferences and meetings from time to time where they discuss about the negative effects of alcoholism, the impact it has on one’s family and so on. These discussions influence the mind of an individual and strengthen the desire to quit drinking.

In some cases, it is not possible for a person to quit drinking on his own and thus require medical supervision to get rid of it. Seeking a doctor’s advice to quit smoking is much safer and easier than seeking advice to quit drinking.

Another very effective method of stopping alcoholism is hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is one way through which a person can gain control over their drinking addiction and regain a strong hold in their life. The subconscious mind is awakened and reprogrammed with the help of hypnosis to gain control over alcoholism.

Another way is to change your diet thereby eliminating alcohols and other addictive foods from your diet.
