Hemroids is one such disease which affects millions of people around the world. About 50% of the population of America is suffering from this disorder. A number of causes have been attributed to it, however, none of the causes are strong enough to stand alone as the exact hemroids causes. Before we proceed with the causes of hemroids, let’s take a quick glance on the types of hemroids.

Hemorrhoids are actually small lumps that form inside the anus and rectum. Basically, there are three types of hemorrhoids namely, internal hemorrhoids, external hemroids and bleeding hemroids. Internal hemroids occur within the anus and the rectum whereas external hemroids appear on the outside of the anus, around the anal openings. Bleeding hemroids are internal hemroids which is characterized by profuse bleeding.

Hemroids causes can be broadly classified into two categories on the basis of our lifestyle and eating habits. Some of the causes of hemroids based on lifestyle are lack of physical exercise, prolonged sitting or standing, strenuous work etc. Hemroids causes based on the eating habits are lack of fibrous food, too much fatty foods, intake of too much fast food, lack of fruits and vegetables in your diets, not following proper meal timings etc.

Apart from these factors, there are other causes such as pressure on the pelvic and rectal system, constipation, obesity, pregnancy, hereditary, diarrhea, etc.

Pressure on the Pelvic and Rectal System

This is one of the major causes of hemroids. While passing the stool, the pressure gathers blood around the pelvic and rectum system, thus, swelling the veins. When extra pressure is exerted, the veins are damaged resulting in irritation and itchiness around the anus.

Constipation

Another common cause of hemroids is constipation. It is the result of poor diet, too little consumption and over consumption of alcohol. Since constipation makes the stool hard and dry, it exerts a lot of pressure on the intestine which damages it and swells the vein. If constipation persists then it can lead to serious hemroids.

Obesity

Obese people often face with the problem of hemroids because of the excess pressure that is exerted on the rectum system by the body weight. The veins are put into further strain during bowel movements that leads to scarring and swelling of the anal system.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy is another cause of hemroids. Because of the weight of the child and uterus on the rectum it may cause strain on the already compressed vein. Hemroids can occur either during labor pain or child birth as well.

Diarrhea

During diarrhea, even though the fecal matter is soft, it dampens the intestine leading to hemorrhoids. If early treatment is sought then the formation of hemroids can be prevented.

Bathroom habits play a major role in the formation of hemroids. Not providing sufficient time for passing the stool is one primary cause of hemroids. It damages the large intestine and results in the rupture of the veins. Thus one should not exert extra pressure to pass the stool. Habits such as this are temporary habits that can cause irreparable damage to the veins.
