Egg White and Milk Allergy

Allergies! Allergies! Allergies! These are one of the most prominent ailments affecting billions of people around the world. Out of the different types of allergies, Food Allergy is the most significant as it deprives us of many essential nutrients which affects the growth and development process.

Among the food allergies, the Allergy from the white portion of an egg and milk are very common. The allergens present in the milk protein and the proteins presents in the white portion of the egg are the root cause of the exaggerated reactions of the immune system, which responds by releasing antibodies at mistakenly finding these proteins harmful. These antibodies clung to mast cells and in order to counter attack the allergens, the histamines are further released. These histamines are the main culprit for causing any type of Allergy.

This kind of allergy mostly affects the children as compared to adults, but it does not mean that adults can’t get this hypersensitivity. As the name suggests, an allergy from egg is caused due to the allergic reactions from eggs, be it egg yolk or egg white. A person can get allergic reaction because of any of the allergens present in the white portion of the egg, commonly known as ‘egg white’.

However, a person who is allergic only to a protein in the egg white may be able to easily tolerate egg yolk, and vice versa. At the same time, it should be noted that some people can be allergic to both egg yolk as well as egg white. The most common symptoms of Allergy from the egg white are sneezing, hives, wheezing, running nose, swelling or reddening of the mouth and all the easily noticeable symptoms of food Allergy.

And as far as the Milk Allergy is concerned, we all know that as the name suggests, it is caused from milk and other diary products. Two of the main components of milk protein namely ’whey’ and casein’, play a vital role in igniting the allergic abnormal reactions. Milk allergy may result in insomnia in infants and can have grave effects on the over all development of the babies.

However, there are many alternatives like the soy based formulas and many others, that can be very effective and handy in case of allergy from the milk base formulas. Milk Allergy symptoms are vomiting, trouble in digestion, difficulty in breathing or any of the common symptoms of milk Allergy.

The precautions should be taken in order to stay away from these allergies or to minimize the side effects. Elimination Diet should be practiced and one must try every possible way to avoid any contact with allergens present in the milk or egg. Stay away completely from consuming, smelling and even touching eggs and milk. Do consult the doctor in case the condition is severe.
