Each one of us has suffered from sore throat at some stage of our life. But very few of us have tried to find out the causes for sore throat. It could have been the result of many things. However, some of the major causes are the viral infections like flu, sinusitis, measles, common cold, pollution etc., some of which are persistent and severe and may last for a couple of weeks requiring immediate treatment. While some others, such as, those caused by common cold, pollution etc. can be easily cured by home remedies only.
Here are the categories according to their types of infection:
1) Viral infection
viral infection usually accompanies a running nose, common cold and cough. And it may take a couple of days to be cured. Following are some of the viral infections:

2) Bacterial infection
bacterial infection is very rare yet severe. If not treated properly, can even prove fatal as it can damage the heart. Following are some of the bacterial infections:
i) strep ii) sinusitis iii) tonsillitis iv) diphtheria v) gonorrhea
All these can cause bacterial infection to the throat.
3) Allergy
Sometimes, a sore throat can be due to an allergy. I have a friend who is allergic to perfumes, dust etc. she very often suffers from sore throat and a running nose because of allergy.
4) Pollution
Air pollution, tobacco smoke, spicy foods etc. can also inflame your throat.
5) Tumor
If you smoke, drink or chew betel nuts, then there is a high chance of suffering from chronic sore throat which may even cause tumor.
Do you think that by simply knowing on what can cause the disease is enough for you to prevent yourself from it? No, not at all. You need to know everything about that particular disease/inflammation, if you want a healthy lifestyle. So, to cure your sore throat, you must know the meaning, types, causes, symptoms and the home remedies or the treatment available.
