Baby allergies to milk base formula

Milk base formula is quite an effective alternative for women who are a bit reserved in breastfeeding their babies. There are various such formulas available in the market that can cover up for the deficiency of essential nutrients, due to no breastfeeding. But some babies are allergic to these and are intolerant to any milk or diary products.

Also, the number of babies being allergic to milk is a reason to worry. A recent research points out that about 2 to 5 % of the infants suffer from Milk Allergy. The allergic reactions to milk and other diary products originate from the immune system of the body. The ever protective immune system of the body responds to the milk proteins presents in the milk be it that of a Cow, a goat or a sheep, mistakenly thinking them as harmful, by releasing antibodies which further release histamines that cause abnormal allergic reactions after the consumption of milk. This inappropriate overreaction has a grave effect on the baby and gradually the body does not allow the little baby to drink milk.

The two main components of milk which act as allergens are; ‘Casein’, that is formed in the sour curd and ‘Whey’, the watery portion that is left after the curd is removed. These are hugely responsible for making the baby allergic to the milk base formulas.

In some cases, the sensitivity to milk and dairy products is very high and then no matter whether the infant is being given milk base formula or milk of a cow, sheep or goat, the baby would be intolerant to any of them.

Now, if the baby is allergic to his/her only nutrition, then it is bond to affect the growth and development process of the infant. However, if there is a history of milk allergy in the family, then the pediatricians advise the soy based formula as it is found to be a very good alternative for babies who are allergic to milk base formulas, which differ in taste as the flavour is very awfully different.

Baby allergies to milk base formula should never be taken lightly as sometimes the infant may be intolerant to that of soy also, which makes the situation more critical. So, check out the Symptoms of milk allergy and consult a doctor immediately.
